This file contains letters pertaining to the inauguration of Jonaki, a new complex at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), as well as the symposium on 'Frontiers of Tomorrow in Biology'. Both of these events occurred almost concurrently in the year 1987. The names in these letters and telegrams are either not present or are illegible. These are arranged chronologically for the most part; however, there are a few letters without dates that are kept at the end of this file. This also has two handwritten notes that are not illegible and are retained at the end of the file.

Both of these events occurred almost concurrently in 1987. This funding is provided as part of a collaboration between the NIH and CSIR (CCMB). This file contains letters either addressed to or written by the Secretary of the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Subba Rao, the Joint Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and many more. The first letter in this file, from Subba Rao, has an enclosure, which is retained as found. This file includes two handwritten notes, which, like the other documents in the file, are maintained in chronological order. Additionally, this file contains an additional handwritten note that doesn't have an exact date and is preserved at the end of the file.

This file includes documents containing the programme details for former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's inauguration of Jonaki. This was a new complex at the CCMB dedicated to Rajiv Gandhi in 1987 at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB). Documents such as 'Agenda for the Dedication Ceremony' along with a few handwritten notes are included in this file. 'Programme for the dedication ceremony', 'Programme for the formal dedication ceremony' and 'Programme of the Prime Minister in the CCMB' are also parts of this same file.

This file contains letters that are either addressed to or written by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) or Prime Minister's Secretariat in relation to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's visit for the inauguration of Jonaki. The new CCMB complex, known as Jonaki, was dedicated to Rajiv Gandhi. The inauguration and dedication ceremony took place on 26 November 1987. The correspondence contained in this file is from both 1986 and 1987 and pertains to the particulars of Rajiv Gandhi's visit to CCMB for the event. Two copies of the identical letter are preserved due to the fact that their dates differ. A letter addressed to GK Arora of the PM's Secretariat has enclosures, which are retained as found.

The correspondence contained in this file is from 1987 and pertains to the particulars of Rajiv Gandhi's visit to CCMB for the event. Three copies of the identical letter are preserved due to the fact that they have different annotations on them. This also contains four handwritten notes, which are preserved alongside the letters with which they were discovered. This file also contains an undated document letter, which is retained at the end of the file.

This file contains correspondence between Films Division representatives and PM Bhargava concerning the CCMB film that was to be produced. The Film Division is an agency of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. This correspondence has been kept in this subseries because the film also covers the inauguration. This file contains correspondence addressed to or written by Vijay Chandra, the Chief Producer of the Films Division, Girish Vaidya, the Joint Chief Producer of the Films Division, and many more. The letter addressed to Chandra has annexures as enclosures; however, one of the annexures is missing and the other one is retained as found. Two duplicates of an identical letter are preserved due to the fact that they bear distinct dates.

This file contains letters either addressed to or written by PS Shankar, Editor of the Publications and Information Directorate; G Selvam, Station Director, All India Radio, Government of India; and many more. This also has many other documents, like 'Portfolios of Ministers', 'List of Newspapers and Other News/Media Agencies' and 'Material to be Sent to Dr Sunil Kothari for his Write-up on the CCMB'. This also has three handwritten notes and one card.

Publications

This series contains the important publications that Pushpa Mittra Bhargava kept in his collection. The first subseries contains 123 issues of Vijnan Karmee, the official publication of the Association of Scientific Workers of India (ASWI). These issues span a period from May 1949 to October 1968. The monthly magazine addresses scientific subjects and discussions in the field of science in India and includes articles and essays by contributors such as Joliot-Curie, JD Bernal, CV Raman, DD Kosambi, Niels Bohr, and many others.

The magazine also covers issues related to the Association of Scientific Workers of India and the broader scientific community in India. They have been arranged chronologically. Certain issues bear handwritten inscriptions by PM Bhargava.

Plans for National Biological Laboratory

This file contains two plans for the National Biological Laboratory. The first is a booklet titled 'National Biological Laboratory: A Plan' along with a copy of the same. The third is a handwritten document titled 'Tentative plan for NBL.'

Correspondence regarding the confirmed date for meeting of the advisory committee appointed by Director-General, CSIR, for establishment of CCMB and arrangements related to it

This file contains correspondence with A Rahman, S Ramachandran, Obaid Siddiqui, GP Talwar and TV Subbaiah regarding the first meeting of the advisory committee. It also contains a few handwritten notes. Enclosures are retained as found.

Provisional recommendations of the committee and justification for location of the proposed centre for research and development in cellular and molecular biology

This file contains provisional recommendations of the committee constituted by the Director-General, CSIR, to make recommendations on the proposal of the Regional Research Laboratory (RRL), Hyderabad, for setting up an Autonomous Advanced Centre for Molecular and Cellular Biology at RRL. It contains appendices and a justification for the location of the proposed centre for research and development in cellular and molecular biology at RRLH along with an annexure. This file also contains a few handwritten notes.

This file includes a letter addressed to YS Rajan, Assistant Scientific Secretary of ISRO, discussing the invitation for proposals to conduct experiments on NASA's Spacelab Mission. This letter is dated 13 April 1978. This letter also contains numerous enclosures, which are preserved in their original order. One letter is addressed to Stanley Deutsch, the Director of the Life Science Payloads and Applications at NASA. The other letter is addressed to YS Rajan, Assistant Scientific Secretary of ISRO. Both of these letters mention an enclosure titled 'Proposal for Consideration for the Spacelab Life Sciences Flight Experiment'.
